Q&A: eating healthy….am I? see my menus?

Question by hambone1985: eating healthy….am I? see my menus?
Ok..overall I am doing better than I was
Before: McDonalds, Steak-n-shake (lots of nuggets and chicken strips)
Now: lots of Mexican which includes corn tortillas, onion, garlic, tomatoes, hot chiles
lots of chicken!!! (sometimes fried in cholestorol free oil)
apples, grapes, bananas
salad with dressing
LOTS of eggs (scrambled w/ milk)
LOTS of potatoes (mashed, baked)
LOTS of icecream (chocolate brownie..but I don’t like milk so I use it for calcium)
lots of chocolate milk (to supplement my calcium)
lots of cereal (raisin bran usually) w/ a litle milk
grape juice
water

ok…that is about the only foods I eat. Is there something obviously missing?
Please give me some foods with lots of fiber.

try to ease up on the potatoes, too much starch isn’t good for you!!!! it’s good to eat steak once and awhile too. You need more veggies, especially dark greens, they’ve got all the fiber

try grilling your chicken instead of frying it. and you can put hard-boiled eggs, mandrian oranges, turkey pepperoni, and all kinds of things in your salads to make them less boring =]

You are doing great so far I think. I would ditch the ice cream and chocolate milk. Go with a skim milk, or soy milk.

I’d introduce more variety of fruits in addition to your apples, grapes and bananas. Try pineapple, mellons, and berries berries berries.

I would stay away from anything fried. I don’t care if its a chicken breast, yams, or a snickers bar. Anything fried is bad.

The egg yolk has lots of great nutrients. It also has a lot of cholestreal. If you’re not worried about cholestreal, it should be fine, but not too much.

Just try to eat a lot of different vegatables, fruits, beans. Don’t always eat the same stuff.

For fiber you need to eat whole-wheat bread, try to look for some with anywhere between 4-7 grams of fiber per slice.

I see you’ve been eating salad. What do you put in your salad? I would suggest romaine lettuce with plenty of vegetables and definitely use a low-fat dressing.

Lay off the eggs unless you’re just eating the whites. The main reason being that they are loaded with cholesterol. Don’t eat as many potatoes either since they are mostly just filled with refined carbohydrates.

No ice cream if you are trying to lose weight, try to limit it down to twice a week. And don’t drink chocolate milk to supplement calcium, take calcium pills for that since the milk, especially chocolate is loaded with fat.

    Good luck!

PS- Try to incorporate more fruit into your diet.

No, you are not eating all that healthy quite yet. You need veggies, especially green ones. Many green veggies have calcium in them as well as other vitamins that are needed by the body. Mix in some broccoli, aparagus, artichoke. Add Berries with your cereal, blueberries are very good. Throw in an orange to get some great Vitamin C.

Never fry your chicken, that takes a healthy food and makes it no better than a greasy burger for you. Lose the ice cream, your just kidding yourself if you think its giving you the calcium you need. Fruit juices are often just sugar water… make sure you are drinking 100% not from concentrate fruit juice if you want to have some.
