Testosterone Lawsuit News: Plaintiffs File New AndroGel Motion in Federal Litigation, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

Court records indicate that the testosterone litigation has been growing since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) revealed on January 31, 2014 that it was reviewing the cardiovascular side effects allegedly associated with low testosterone therapy. Plaintiffs involved in the federal proceeding claim that their use of drugs like AndroGel caused heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other life-threatening heart problems. They further allege that the manufacturers of the medications knowingly concealed information about these side effects from the public, and failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about the potential for life-threatening heart complications. The lawsuits also assert that healthy men were induced to use low testosterone treatments by misleading marketing claims that positioned the drugs as effective remedies for symptoms associated with male aging.

In September, a panel of FDA advisors recommended that the safety labeling for all testosterone medications be revised to make clear they have not been shown to lessen symptoms associated with male aging, such as low sex drive, fatigue, and muscle loss. They also recommended that the manufacturers of testosterone replacement therapies be required to conduct studies of their cardiovascular side effects.*
