Q&A: How can I eat healthy on a college campus?

Question by CooCoo: How can I eat healthy on a college campus?
I am currently on campus and I am having trouble eating healthy meals. I do try to cook healthy meals but I need some more meal ideas that aren’t too expensive because I am on a college budget. Any help and good websites are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  1. Bogdan says:

In general, and especially in college, its more about the appropriate times for food and the amount of food that you eat. Sometimes on late night study sessions, you get hungry and you forget that its 1AM.
You eat healthy by choosing appropriate meals, at appropriate times, and in appropriate proportions. Some suggestions:
    1. Always include greens in meals. If you’re eating out or your cooking for yourself, make sure you add either a salad to your meal, or you put some vegetables in the food that you cook (I know….pretty obvious right?)
    2. Use the campus dining facilities to your advantage: if your college has an all you can eat place, think of it as “all you wish to eat.” Your health and well-being are not an eating contest.
    3. For the cheapest food, I would suggest using wholesale food places like Costco rather than cheap markets. Sure you pay more initially, but you buy more food that lasts you longer and is most likely healthier.
    4. For ingredients, use things like mushroom and other similar items that have a low price and are relatively healthy.

I would suggest checking out http://collegebrink.com for some college info. Its still under construction and we have an “official” launch later in August but the few articles that are online at this point might provide you with some insight 😀
