Great message, this guy is the real deal. He has a 2nd Forks Over Knives
video (also on Netflix) where he goes into peoples houses to show them how
to make it happen on a practical level.

I’m sure that a plant-based diet is quite healthy and I believe in
everything you say, since I’ve read books and seen movies about it, but
some parts of your diet don’t seem very healthy to me. By that I mean white
carbohydrates, desserts, cookies, cakes, waffles, etc. Yes, it is very good
for the body if you eat less cheese and meat, something I have trouble
doing, but I think that in order to achieve optimal health you must also
cut out other unhealthy foods such as those I mentioned about (refined
carbs, sugar…). Besides that, congratulations on your success :)

A vegan diet is a survival diet, not a thriving diet. If you choose to be
a vegan please avoid any grains and legumes, and supplement heavily. The
pain and lethargy many vegans often feel is not “cleansing”, its nutrient
deficiency.

A great video outlining the benefits of going with a plant based diet.
There’s no reason to not enjoy feel good and benefit for the long term from
what you eat and plants do exactly that! I’m vegetarian myself and working
on vegan slowly! Its hard but gotta start somewhere!! Enjoy

Far too extreme for me. Calling dairy products “meat” even in jest is
ridiculous. What about omega 3’s in fish? What are babies supposed to do if
they can’t even have saturated fat which is abundant in human breast milk?

Plants are not only good for your health. Producing meat needs 10 times
more agricultural lands to grow the meet (to feed the animals) than
consuming the crops directly. Efficient economy is dangerous for the
capitalist economy whose progress is based on inefficiency, on wasting
more.

It’s not meat that is causing these diseases, it’s processed foods, fast
foods, greasy junk food. Yeah, eating fruits and vegetables are good for
your health, but cutting out meat all together is a horrible diet. You
need protein just as much as you need carbs in your diet. 200 years ago
humans didn’t have these diseases. Humans were strong and in good
health. They stuck to eating yes plant based foods but also MEAT that
they hunted. If you want to be healthy and live disease free, have a well
balanced diet. This includes protein.

Forks Over Knives is about the advocacy of a plant-strong diet. (…..and
before you say anything, they do NOT subscribe to the motto “moderation in
all things”). It changed my husband’s thinking. (he had a heart attack 4
years ago and questioned the Cardiac Rehab nutritionist’s recommendations).
The evidence in the documentary is powerful and the hard facts are what has
my husband embracing this way of eating. I love Rip and everything he
stands for – however – this TED Talk uses the condemnation of animal
protein and fat and focuses on cholesterol as the primary cause of heart
disease in order to convince folks to have a plant-strong diet. This is in
direct contradiction to the evidence of Pam Killeen, a local nutritional
consultant and recovering vegetarian, who insists we must get back to an
ancestral diet rich in animal protein and says we should be eating bacon
and eggs and especially butter because new evidence says that cholesterol
is not the cause of heart disease – rather the culprit, according to Dr. Oz
(of almost every problem) is inflammation in the body. This makes me
wonder if the plant-strong diet may be the ideal but the justification of
avoiding cholesterol may be faulty. Perhaps it is not the avoidance of
cholesterol but the fact that a plant-strong diet reduces inflammation in
the body. Such confusion when hubby just wants to do the right thing ……

I may be new to this, but saying your body doesn’t need protein, and then
calling it “problematic animal protein”, doesn’t necessarily make it so.
I’m not the end all be all, so I don’t claim to have all the answers. But I
don’t know many dietitians who preach against all forms of protein.
greazetrap says:

Yep, Rip is truly an inspiration. Sadly humans are impervious to reason.
How is it that Pythagoras was preaching this in the 6th Century BC, and
here we are having to ask ourselves why it’s unnatural to suckle on cow’s
milk as adults – and indeed, why we drink another animal’s milk at all?
That’s weird! It’s also unethical. Veganism is not a fad, nor fraud – it’s
simply the right and natural way to live and evolve.

Thank you, Joanna.
When I was unemployed I ate so much healthier and I was thinner, because of
my budget! I was forced to cook the vast majority of my meals to save
money, but still ate healthy. Thanks for the brown and white rice tip! I
used to do this myself, but totally forgot this great savings trick.
Do you have any tips for cooking brown and white rice together, because
brown rice tends to take longer to cook?

Tofu is cheap in California as well, because there are so many non-gmo,
organic producers of it here. But if I go a couple hundred miles inland,
tofu is extremely expensive! Eating locally is best for those who live in
temperate zones, for sure ;)

You might want to think about WHY chicken & eggs are so cheap. The animals
have to suffer for those prices. Your attitude towards cage chickens should
make you feel ashamed, seriously. Why should any animal suffer just so you
can have your stupid egg?
You really should have mentioned vegan protein sources like lentils or
beans (very healthy). Also, you can buy organic fruits and vegetables (and
not have pesticides) instead, because animal products are more expensive
than plant-based things. :)
