This review is from: The Coconut Oil Miracle, 5th Edition (Paperback)
Even though this is said to be a new edition, it is identical to the previous one. I’d actually read this book years ago but the information was buried under the avalanche of further reading I’ve done since. Recently several more books recommended coconut oil but did not give a lot of information about it, so I re-read a couple of books by this author.

As far as I can tell, all the information from this book is also in “Coconut Cures”, which is actually the later one that includes further information about the healing powers of coconut meat, milk and juice (or water). I would therefore suggest getting “Coconut Cure”, rather than this one, although both are excellent.(Papaya/Pawpaw is another miracle fruit worth checking out, by the way.)

Coconut oil has been used for centuries by tropical inhabitants. The author offers good, informative details about the miracle of coconut oil. Much information is given on the health benefits (yes BENEFITS) of saturated fats and the “smear” campaign of the vegetable oil industry. In fact coconut oil can help weight loss for the obese and weight gain for the over-skinny as well as reduce heart disease and many, many other health problems: it may prevent and even reverse all sorts of things from inflammation to infections. And allergies. And skin conditions, including fungus.

Unfortunately, I can’t say I noticed much improvement in myself but eventually I was diagnosed with severe low thyroid problems (that the doctors managed not to diagnose or treat for over 20 years) – and no medical treatment, alternative therapy, “healing” oil or “super” food was going to make much difference until I got the thyroid supplementation I desperately needed. I had much better success using coconut oil for ‘oil pulling’, as explained in Fife’s book of the same name – worked immediately for me, to sooth an abscessed tooth, and has long-term systemic benefits – about a month later I noticed my frequent atrial fibrillations had reduced substantially! (I think any good oil would do for this, however.)

`Hypothyroidism Type 2′ by Mark Starr (“type 2” meaning the many thyroid problems for which there are no lab tests so they don’t get diagnosed) explains how a lot of mental/emotional difficulties and all chronic pain is linked to low thyroid, including those involved with diabetes, heart problems, both bleeding & blood clots (including strokes) and some cancers. If you have any kind of chronic pain, you need to know 1. some are calling low thyroid the silent epidemic (silent because officially denied) and 2. that ALL the standard lab tests are WRONG, yet low thyroid and/or low adrenals is the most common health problem…

The FREE basal (at rest) temperature self-test is THE gold standard for low thyroid problems and – with your symptoms – means more than any lab test (although most conventional doctors, including endos, won’t agree but then they’re not trained to understand thyroid problems – the Broda Barnes Foundation website offers a list of the very few thyroid sympathetic doctors in your state – click on the “educational info” button on the left). The basal temperature test will pick up conditions that current lab tests don’t, such as thyroid resistance. The stopthethyroidmadness website has excellent instructions for this self-test, as well as several for adrenal fatigue, which often goes hand-in-hand with low thyroid.

It’s also worth knowing about “Coconut Therapy for Pets” by Fife and “The Calcium Lie II” an intriguing book plausibly claiming to explain the root cause of most illnesses.

Not really a new edition, December 17, 2013

This review is from: The Coconut Oil Miracle, 5th Edition (Paperback)
“A completely revised and updated guide…”

This review is not really about the content. I think the content is great. I believe in the coconut oil miracle. Yet, when comparing the 5th edition (2013) to the 4th edition (2004) I see basically no changes. I bought the 5th hoping there would be new research, new proof, new conclusions. I was disappointed.
I found no new forward or introduction. One website added to the Resources section. The Product section was dropped. In References (chapter bibliographies) I found only a few new entries in one chapter (Coconut Oil as Food and as Medicine) which did not seem significant. The book contained the same 50 recipes. The 5th edition has more pages (more readable with more white space) and a nice new cover.

In general I suggest the 4th edition is a better buy.
Strangely both editions are available from the same publisher at this time.

Surprising Benefits of Coconut Oil, December 3, 2013
    By

This review is from: The Coconut Oil Miracle, 5th Edition (Paperback)
I’ve been hearing about the benefits of coconut oil from various media sources so I was interested in this book. The author seems credible as a naturopathic doctor and certified nutritionist and he isn’t selling coconut oil, doesn’t work for the industry, and takes care to cite objective research.

The first surprise is that not all saturated fats are bad as we’ve been led to believe, especially those that are in their natural state and not hydrogenated transfats. For those who want to know the details, the book outlines the differences between saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats and gives a basic understanding of the processes that make fats good or bad. But if you’d rather skip the “science” in chapters one and two, start with chapter three to learn about the real benefits of coconut oil; benefits such as helping prevent heart disease, dental disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. It also contains compounds that are naturally antibacterial which makes it great for topical use as well as a food. Cultures that have diets high in coconut oil and coconut itself have long enjoyed better health than most others, something that has now been documented scientifically.

Chapters in the book include A New Weapon Against Heart Disease, Nature’s Marvelous Germ Fighter, Beautiful Skin and Hair, Coconut Oil as Food and Medicine, to name a few. There are also recipes included to incorporate coconut oil into one’s diet.

This book is the latest fifth edition with updated research and resources.

Coming into the New Year with resolutions for better health, I think this would be a great resource to consider. As a result of reading this book, I was convinced to purchase coconut oil. I’m finding ways to incorporate it into my daily diet and will hopefully reap the health benefits.

I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but my opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review requiured.

When I was a kid, I learned that the coconut tree is the tree of life because all of its parts are very useful. But I never expected coconut oil to have a LOT of uses. I am very happy that I bought this book because I learned a lot of information. I never knew coconut oil would be very healthy to people. Some of its uses that you can learn from this book are: lip balm, good for digestion, as shaving cream, as cooking oil, etc. This book includes simple instructions how to use the coconut oil. You’ll be amazed!

I always knew that Coconut Oil is a wonderful gift of the nature. My granny used to emphasize on the amazing benefits of this benevolent oil. This book precisely brings out in an organized manner what my Granny spoke from traditional knowledge. The beauty of this book lies in the simple yet astonishing recipes that have been listed with easy to make directions. A great effort by the author which I truly enjoyed. Good work Jessica. Lets have more of such books. Thanks !!!
