Stockton Animal Shelter is Close to Winning First Place in the National ASPCA® Rachel Ray $ 100K Challenge

Stockton, CA (PRWEB) August 23, 2014

With a week left before the ASPCA® Rachael Ray $ 100K Challenge ends on 8/31, Stockton Animal Shelter is incredibly close to bringing home the $ 100K grand prize. Currently in 2nd place out of 50 total shelters around the U.S., Stockton believes it can achieve the 1st place title.

To finish the competition off strong, Stockton Animal Shelter is throwing a 2-day Summer Block Party on 8/30 and 8/31, 12pm – 5pm, to celebrate the Stockton community and its animals. With a goal of 100 adoptions for the event, the Stockton Animal Shelter hopes to break its all-time adoption record and slide into 1st place in the challenge.

In addition to fee-waived adoptions all weekend for all animals, festivities for the Summer Block Party include live music from DJ Marselus, good eats from local food trucks like T&S Xtreme BBQ and Flavors of Korea, a homemade bake sale, a free raffle including prizes from the Stockton Thunder & Stockton Ports, and summer activities for the whole family.

“We are so close to winning the ASPCA® Rachael Ray $ 100K Challenge; we need to go out with a bang,” said Tammie Murrell, interim manager at the Stockton Animal Shelter. “That’s why the shelter’s first ever 2-day Summer Block Party is so important; it will bring the Stockton community together for a great celebration. Our goal is to find homes for 100 animals in need, while also acknowledging all the wonderful strides we’ve accomplished during the ASPCA® Challenge. “

“If we take home the $ 100,000 grand prize,” Murrell added, “Stockton Animal Shelter will be able to save the lives of countless animals while furthering our programs and services for the Stockton community, like expanding our spay/neuter surgery capabilities.”

Besides attending the Stockton Animal Shelter’s Summer Block Party at the end of the month, the Stockton community is encouraged to vote for the shelter in the ASPCA® Community Engagement Award contest. This award relies purely on the community and supporters of the shelter to log onto Facebook daily to vote. The top three shelters with the most votes will win $ 25,000 each. Voters can vote for the Stockton Animal Shelter every day until 8/31 midnight. To vote for Stockton Animal Shelter, visit http://www.votetosavelives.org

Murrell urges the city of Stockton to vote on Facebook every day. “If Stockton Animal Shelter wins the Community Engagement Award, Stockton will have showed the nation that the city is strong and on the rise. After all, we are in 2nd place in the ASPCA® $ 100K Challenge!”
