Spine Guide Releases New Guidelines For Spinal Recovery

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) September 12, 2014

E-health center Spine Guide, best known for providing online guidance on spinal injuries and treatment, has recently announced that it has published a list of guidelines for people recovering from back pain management or surgery. The guidelines are meant to complement the wealth of information that the Spine Guide website has on all things spine-related.

Although Spine Guide primarily focuses on back pain and treatment, the spinal knowledge portal also recognizes recovery as equally important. The guideline list is a combination of lifestyle changes required for optimal recovery and pain management.

The most common advice for sufferers of back pain is to eat healthy and exercise regularly. An increase in physical activity can help reduce inflammation within the back, as well as release tension. Coupled with eating the right foods, exercise can help shed the pounds, thus relieving the spine and back muscles of stress.

Also crucial to back pain relief is posture. Patients should sit on chairs with straight backs, and they should remember to have their stomach pulled in as they stand up in a straight position. Patients with lower back pain in particular should sit on chairs that offer low-back support. Also, patients can consult with their physicians regarding the type of sleeping position that is best for them. Ideally, people with spinal problems avoid pressure on their backs by sleeping on the side with a pillow between their knees, which are slightly bended.

Carrying things should also be carefully noted. For instance, lifting or carrying heavy items should be avoided as much as possible. However, in cases when lifting heavy things is required, the patient should bend at the knees without bending or twisting the waist.

Although other guidelines are not as obvious as the aforementioned pointers, they are equally as crucial. Avoiding high heels consequently prevents added strain on the lower back; and smoking should be greatly discouraged, since it can restrict the flow of nutrient-rich blood to the spinal discs. Even wearing the right size of clothes makes a huge difference; tight-fitting clothing can adversely affect the person’s ability to walk, sit or bend, thus aggravating back pain.
