Q&A: Which is worse, consuming a lot of low-glycemic-index sugar, or a smaller amount of high-glycemic index sugar?

Question by Red Fox Ace: Which is worse, consuming a lot of low-glycemic-index sugar, or a smaller amount of high-glycemic index sugar?
I know that high-GI sugar makes your blood sugar spike dramatically, which is not good. Low-GI food is better, but at the end of the day, sugar is still sugar, right, and too much of it in your body won’t help?

Additional question: Is “natural sugar” (such as naturally found in oranges, strawberries, bananas, apples, etc.) bad for you, or can you basically eat as much fruit as you want?

I’m trying to shift away from a Western diet of processed sugar towards a natural one of vegetables and fruits, but it might not help much if bananas, grapes and apples etc. are high in harmful sugar.

First of all, you should be using the Glycemic LOAD charts rather than the confusing index charts. The LOAD uses portion sizes that make a lot more sense of this issue.

Next, you are right, sugar is sugar. The body doesn’t discern between artificial sugar and natural sugar. ALL CARBS become sugar quickly. ALL OF THEM! ! ! Fruits and vegetables are carbs. ALL OF THEM. Eating lots of carbs is not a good idea. The latest way to justify this is to eat 6 meals per day. The reason this is being promoted is so the food industry can make bigger profits and you can eat carbs while creating a more level blood sugar level.

CARBS are like the kindling on a fire that give you quick, fleeting energy. In excess, they cause insulin and glucagon spikes. When this happens, your body believes you are under stress and this causes your adrenal glands to fire and produce lots of cortisol.

We were designed to eat lots of fat, not carbs. FATS are like the big logs on a fire that give you long sustained energy so you can go through the day and not get hungry as often. Fats are so misunderstood and demonized by PROFIT mongers of the food industry to the point of nausea.

The fruits and vegetables you buy in stores are so lacking in nutrient value that it is a wonder people are able to reach a level of health to just function each day.

The correct amount of CARBS you should eat each day is about 75 grams. You should be getting most of your calories from FATS, not carbs. Weight management is far easier when you do this. Animal fats have been demonized to the point where people are afraid to eat meat. This is so wrong advice that if it were not so pitifully bad science, it would be comical. Animal fats have so many good things in it, but there is one problem. The commercial meats we see in stores from GRAIN fed animals is terrible for you. So the so called “experts” are not totally wrong, but to say don’t eat meat, that is totally contrary to how we were designed. GRASS FED animals provide incredibly healthy fats, proteins, and some carbs.

The fructose sugar in fruits is sugar. The good thing about fruits is they contain pectin and this helps the body deal with fruit sugar far better than other sugars. A high quality fruit however is difficult to find in America today. You have to do a lot of homework and searching to find good fruit. There used to be over 7,000 varieties of apples grown in the U.S. That number has decreased to less than 100 now. Our biodiversity has been depleted and corrupted by terrible companies like Monsanto that would love to control the food through genetic engineering.

High sugar content of food along with high mineral content is the ideal foodstuff when it comes to fruits and vegetables. These foods when high in nutrients will not spoil, only get dehydrated over many months. Bugs won’t eat them so no pesticides are needed.

The proper amount of food categories should be 40% carbs, 30% fats, and 30% proteins. Avoid ALL refined sugars and artificial sugars at all costs. Eat dense carbs only.

good luck to you
