Research conducted at Harvard University, in conjunction with the University of Toronto and jointly funded by the CDC and the Association of Schools of Public Health, has found that there are between 72,000 and 96,000 preventable deaths per year in the U.S. caused by a dietary Omega 3 deficiency. The study went on to show that a dietary Omega 3 deficiency is the 6th leading cause of preventable death in the USA. In light of these results, Intelligent Labs, based out of Florida and Brighton, England, has launched what they believe to be the most powerful and effective Omega 3 supplement on the market to help reduce these unnecessary deaths.

“It was easy to identify the first product to release,” said Intelligent Labs CEO Andy Mobbs. “The research speaks for itself; we can prevent these deaths with very high quality supplementation if people can’t increase their Omega 3 intake through their diet.”

He continued, “Omega 3 is one of the most researched substances in medical history. As well as being a leading cause of preventable death, it has also been identified as playing a key role in a huge number of modern health problems—from chronic lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease to cognitive and psychological problems like depression, anxiety and Alzheimer’s disease.”

There are two main reasons why modern Americans are so deficient in Omega 3. The first is that most eat very little seafood, which was a traditional part of the human diet as we evolved along coastal areas. Seafood is very high in Omega 3 content, especially the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA, which forms the neurons in the brain and central nervous system. The second reason is modern diets are very high in the inflammatory Omega 6 fatty acids that are abundant in the grains and vegetable oils used so frequently.

Mobbs explained, “Most people today have an Omega 6:Omega 3 ratio of between 30:1 and 50:1 [meaning 30 to 50 times more Omega 6 than Omega 3] when the ratio shouldn’t really be any high than 3-4:1. Omega 6 and Omega 3 both compete together on the same enzymatic pathways, so any Omega 3 we do get from our diets is made less effective by all the Omega 6 we consume.”

He added, “All this leads to the chronic inflammation and sickness that is so common as we age in society today. If we stop our bodies from getting chronically inflamed, we can stay fit and healthy for a long time into old age.”

Intelligent Labs Omega 3 is made from natural triglycerides, the form fatty acids take in wild fish. Mobbs elaborated, “Most fish oils on the market are not really fish oil. They have been chemically altered from their natural state to what are known as ‘Ethyl Esters,’ where the fatty acid has been artificially connected to an alcohol backbone. These Ethyl Esters are significantly less well-absorbed by the body and much less effective once they are in the body. Although they can legally be called fish oil, they are not found in nature, and I would urge all consumers only to buy Omega 3 that specifically states it is made from natural triglycerides.”

Intelligent Labs Omega 3 provides 1224mg of EPA and 816mg of DHA per serving, the highest of any natural triglyceride formulation on the market. It also comes in a 3:2 EPA:DHA ratio, which is the one favored by scientists when investigating Omega 3 benefits.

According to Mobbs, “Many manufacturers have a much higher EPA concentration as EPA is much cheaper to produce than DHA, but it is the strength of the DHA content of an Omega 3 oil that really tells you about its quality.”

Omega 3 is not just important for general health though. Top class athletes are just starting to understand how vital Omega 3 intake is for peak performance.

“Omega 3 reduces inflammation; as such, adequate levels in our diets, or with supplementation, will significantly reduce recovery time,” said Mobbs. “But beyond this Omega 3 also plays a vital role in ‘red blood cell deformability.’ This allows the red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the muscles, to stay flexible as they push through tight gaps in the capillaries, so the muscles get more oxygen when they tire, the point when they are needing it the most.”

Mobbs concluded, “The role of DHA in helping to form new brain and CNS cells and its role in helping the nervous systems transmit nerve impulses are important for athletes as they improve physical intelligence, helping the body to improve skillful and coordinated movements. In other words: playing sport better.”
