GFCP Expands Sales Team to Support Growing Gluten-Free Industry

The Allergen Control Group (ACG), owners of the Gluten-Free Certification Program (GFCP), is proud to announce the addition of Allen Rekunyk to the team in the role of Vice President, Business Development. Working from the Head Office, Allen will help grow the number of gluten-free brands who are permitted to display the GFCP trademarks on their company’s gluten-free product packaging.

Allen comes from a strong entrepreneurial background, most recently building the successful Guelph-based ITC Recovery Services Inc. As Vice President, Business Development, Allen is responsible for the planning and implementation of Allergen Control Group’s global business development strategies and growth plan as North America’s leading subject matter expert in the field of gluten-free and allergen food-safety compliance and marketing. Working closely with both the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) and Canadian Celiac Association (CCA), the Allergen Control Group is responsible for the delivery and administration of the Gluten-Free Certification Program (GFCP) which enables retailers, national and private brand manufactures and co-packers the opportunity to leverage certification and gain credible access to the growing gluten-free market.

The Gluten-Free Certification Program (GFCP) trademark on food packages indicates that a manufacturer has participated in a voluntary gluten management certification program designed to ensure consumers are purchasing safe, reliable gluten-free products. The GFCP trademark is based on a facility’s ability to successfully combine stringent food safety sytems, which specifically address gluten management systems and is further verified as compliant, by means of a robust 3rd party facility audit process. The endorsements from North Americas’ leading celiac organizations only provide a value-add by building added consumer trust, with those facilities and brands identified in the program.

Paul Valder, President of the Allergen Control Group, says he is “very excited to welcome Allen to the GFCP team. Recent changes in the food industry such as Health Canada’s decision to permit the use of gluten-free claims on gluten free oats and the USFDA’s decision to align with Health Canada and mandate that foods must contain less than 20 ppm’s of gluten in order to bear a “gluten-free” label, have increased the demand for the high standards associated with Gluten-Free Certification Program. We are confident that Allen has the experience and necessary drive required to oversee our growing sales team and expanding customer base.”
