Get Ready for Both St. Patrick’s Day and Easter with King Kullen

Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) March 11, 2015

St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are two holidays that offer opportunities for great food, decorations and fun. King Kullen knows all about the best ways to make these upcoming holidays as fun as possible. The store is helping its customers celebrate the right way with recipe ideas, cooking advice and decoration options.

Corned beef makes the perfect main dish for a St. Patrick’s Day meal. With two different types, point cuts or flat cuts, it can be difficult to know which one to choose. While point cuts (also referred to as “thick cuts”) are the most popular choice, flat cuts (“thin cuts”) are a leaner option. With the help of King Kullen, choosing the right corned beef is easy.

According to Al Gerrity, Director of Meat and Seafood at King Kullen, “Thick cuts have more marbling which offers a tastier and juicier brisket. It loses a good amount of fat when cooked but leaves the meat moist. Thin cuts are leaner, but offer a great amount of flavor.”

There’s nothing that goes better with corned beef than cabbage. When choosing a cabbage, follow the advice of Rich Conger, Director of Produce and Floral at King Kullen:

“Look for cabbages that are bright green and shiny. Make sure the cabbage is firm or hard to the touch, and make sure the leaves of the cabbage are tightly pressed to the stem and are crisp rather than soft,” says Conger.

For one more side dish, try making red potatoes to go with the corned beef and cabbage. Make sure the potatoes are firm, smooth-skinned and well-shaped. Avoid potatoes that are soft, cut, blemished or wrinkled. Before cooking, scrub the potatoes with a vegetable brush and rinse them.

It’s easy to transform foods in order to make them St. Patrick’s Day-themed. All you need is some green food dye. Try making green-colored pasta by adding green food coloring to boiling water before putting the pasta in. Or, choose some naturally-green food items like pesto sauce, spinach and pistachios.

For dessert, try this recipe for the St. Patrick’s Day Classic Irish soda bread. For something sweet, try making this St. Patrick’s Day White Chocolate Bark.

Easter is a great time to make some delicious food. Make your Easter eggs deviled this year with this recipe for Easter Chick Deviled Eggs as an appetizer. For the main course, go traditional with an Easter ham or try making a roast leg of lamb instead. For the sides, glazed carrots make a great option, or choose potatoes for something everyone is sure to enjoy.

Don’t let the kids eat all the Peeps from their Easter baskets this year. Instead, use them to create these cute Peeps cupcakes for a delicious sweet treat. For another dessert option, this Bunny Munch snack mix is perfect.

Fun decorations make the perfect Easter atmosphere. Try filling a vase with jellybeans and placing a candle in the middle for a simple centerpiece. For a delicate accent, make votives out of eggshells.
