I have a mixed reaction to this box of avocados – of which I have so far eaten three. There were 10 in the box. The number will vary with the size of the avocados.

They arrived tightly packed in a battered box. ( I will try to upload a picture.) I was worried that they would be bruised, but they were so green no bruising could occur. I waited and waited for them to ripen and, wondering if I had misjudged the greenness because of an extra hard skin, I wasted one trying to cut into it. Then I wondered if they had been picked before they matured and would never ripen. But they have begun to ripen. The first I tried as absolutely perfect. The second was okay but very stringy. Now, maybe someone in cyberland can tell me why some avocados of the same type (Haas) from the same grove are stringy and others not. I have just eaten the third. It was tasty and less stringy. But still strings. I am working my way through the shipment. I would say, yes, they are worth buying.

8/13 I have now eaten them all. Remember don’t refrigerate until they are ripe. These were very good, and I will reorder.

The second box was tightly packed and closer to being ripe.

I just received my 3rd box. This box, however, was only half full. There were 13 very small Avocados in the box. I didn’t weigh any of the boxes. The first two had 10 large tightly packed Avocados. The third had 13 small loosely packed Avocados. The box was as badly battered as the first one, but, since the Avocados had been sent ripe or a little over ripe – and were loose in the container, some were crushed and oozing out. All but one were badly damaged.

I would say that, since this is a cosmetic company rather than a farm, they are sending whatever they have extra, and maybe I should order elsewhere. The Hass Avocado people say in ads that Hass Avocados are never out of season. I have never lived in California. Is that an exaggeration? The third box had Mexican Avocados. They were not labeled Hass. I have reduced my rating from 4 stars to 3.

Not worth the money. I ordered 12 out of 12 only 4 could be eaten. The rest spoiled. Packaging not strong enough for shipping.
