Agein Corporation, a Leading Anti-Aging Company, Warns Against Fad Diets

Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 12, 2013

Agein.com, the Internet’s premier anti-aging web site focusing on anti-aging tips, news, and advice from some of the foremost experts in the industry, is releasing its comments on the rising popularity of fad diets and warning that they prey on people looking for a quick fix.

“The constant influx of diet fads isn’t really all that surprising when you consider more than 50 million Americans go on a diet each year, spending $ 30.0 billion on weight loss products and programs,” says Laura Foreman, Agein.com’s Anti-Aging Life Coach. “Despite their weak track record, fad diets are increasingly popular because they prey on the need for a quick fix. Yet despite people’s best intentions, only about five percent of fad dieters manage to keep the weight off over the long run.” (Source: “Fad Diets: Fact or Fallacy?” University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture web site’ http://www.uaex.edu/depts/FCS/EFNEP/Lessons/Fad_Diets/fad_diets_fact_fallacy.pdf, last accessed October 10, 2013.)

Often marketed as taking just a few weeks, fad diets promise easy weight loss, an incredible transformation, and only minimal work. Over the years, Americans have tried their luck with the lemon detox diet, cabbage soup diet, grapefruit diet, Dukan diet, blood type diet, seven-day color diet, and negative calorie diet. The latest diet craze, known as “The 100,” suggests that those who limit themselves to 100 sugar calories a day can eat whatever else they want and still lose 18 pounds in just 14 days. While drastic weight loss plans sound enticing, Foreman adds, it’s long been held that one or two pounds a week is a healthy, sustainable plan. On top of that, it’s important to remember that there is no single diet plan that works for everybody; in fact, fad diets can actually harm those with serious health problems, like heart disease or diabetes.

“While it may not sound as exciting as a fad diet, a healthy lifestyle, a well-balanced diet, and exercise are great ways to lose weight,” Foreman concludes. “Those looking for a healthy way to supplement their diet or find out if a particular diet is right for them should talk to their primary health practitioner or certified nutritionist.”
